Apologies for the recent lack of updated posts. Technology decided to work against me and not publish some posts, which brings me to the topic of today...Never completely TRUST technology.
As we all know most of our communicating is done through the likes of Twitter, Facebook and of course the odd email here and there. Gone are the days we used to send letters from one side of the country to the other and patiently await a response. These new sources of technology have opened up a more efficient and quicker way of communicating for companies, businesses and of course ourselves. This is why it is paramount  in a industry such as Public Relations to constantly keep up with the improvements and changes in the technological world. For example when you wish to aim a product or service at a young adult, you need to ask yourself..Where do they spend most there free time? What ways do they communicate with others? Where would my product/service catch their attention? And your answer should be Social Media!!!!

Social sites such as Facebook and Twitter are great tools when publicising to the younger generation. These allow you to keep your audience constantly updated but also hold there attention to what your saying/selling in a fun and easy way. The use of youtube videos and photos will allow you to branch out your ideas.Nowadays the emphasis is on visual cues. The famous saying "Less is more" comes into mind here.  People are more likely to watch a video or look at photos then read a two page essay on what the product or service is that you are promoting and selling. A lot of companies/businesses are catching on to this tool. One example is The Galway Comedy Festival, they have a Facebook page and also a Twitter account. This festival is only one week a year however they create awareness about the event throughout the year on these such sites. Their pages are constantly being updated with videos, pictures and posts about the event. With 5,793 likes on Facebook you know it has been a success for them.

On to my earlier point, NEVER completely trust technology. Technology like everything else can fail. It is not to be fully relied on. If its an internet connection or fault within the computer system itself. This could cause a lack of communication and result in the message you wish to say not being received. You should always have a backup, be it through the print media or television and radio.Never leave yourself short. By using technology effectively and with care what you wish to promote and tell will be successful.
That's all from me for now. I'll back with more.

My First Blog

Last night as I dropped my iPhone, the sheer panic that went through my mind made me realise that my life revolves around apps and gadgets. Being 19, I grew up with the progression of technology meaning when i first heard the dial up tone and held my first Nokia 3310 for my confirmation I was already infected with the communication bug. Today Facebook, Twitter and the like are a huge part of not only my day but my life, I can look at pictures, moments of my life, stored and tagged on Facebook or I can look into the past with great ease on bebo. As my phone fell its wasn't the fear of it breaking that scared me. It was the fear of not having the social networking world at my finger tips.
It made me realise that these days the importance of social networking spans from not just posting last nights photos on your friends wall, but to some of the best examples of public relations that are on show to us today. For example, Heineken recently used facebook to great affect with their Heiniken live events campaign. By allowing people to sign up for free tickets to an event, they gained access to the news feeds of thousands within the area they aimed. They immediately gained a hype around the event which turned out to be one of the biggest events they've ran to date. In the coming weeks I will be exploring this concept in more dept and enlighten you, my readers on in and outs on how you can get the most from your social networks.
Thats all from me folks, until next time.
